On April 28, 1881 Billy the Kid made his famous escape from the Lincoln County jail in Mesilla, New Mexico. His real name was Henry McCarty although he was also know by the pseudonym William H. Bonney, Billy the Kid or simply “The Kid”.
He was a cattle rustler, cowboy and ranch hand, gambler, horse thief and outlaw. His first arrest came from stealing clothes. He had killed 8 men before he was shot and killed at age 21.
