Alice in Wonderland Day
Today is Alice in Wonderland Day. A fun day to celebrate. All of us will know the story of Alice and the fun she had in Wonderland.
The first book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published in 1865 followed by Through the Looking Glass in 1871.
The original story was told by the Author to a friend's daughter who was, at the time, 7 years old on one sunny afternoon, and at the age of 10, Alice asked him to write it down. An original handwritten copy was given to Alice in 1864 and is held at the British Library.
The story is about a 7 year old girl who falls through a rabbit hole and then finds a whole new world, rooms with small doors which she can't get through, so finds a bottle that says "drink me" which makes her shrink and fit through the door and the adventure begins. This sort of fantasy was what the Victorian people loved and it is has been translated into 170 languages and sold more than 100 million copies.
Throughout her adventures she encounters all sorts of different, people from a Cheshire Cat to a Queen of Hearts, and of course The Mad Hatter and Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee to name a few.
Alice in Wonderland is still one of the most popular children's books of all time and is enjoyed by adults as well.
So, let's celebrate this day as we can, and post anything Alice in Wonderland-themed, or just enjoy our usual fun and chit-chat.
