π Bread π₯
No, I am not talking about money, but the combination of flour, salt and water, with other ingredients such as yeast, eggs, butter, seeds, fruit, nuts, etc., that make up the humble loaf, baguette, flatbread or roll!
Bread has been a staple part of the human diet for millennia and still is in all its many forms.
There are many different varieties of bread including:
White
Brown
Wholemeal
Seeded
Multigrain
Sourdough
Rye
Pita bread
Baguettes
Ciabatta
Pumpernickel bread
Challa
Brioche
Flatbread
Bagel
Focaccia
Cornbread
Soda bread
Bara Brith
Teacake
My favourites are seeded, brown, wholemeal, teacakes, and brioche.
Brioche - bread made with butter and eggs - makes a beautiful burger bun or is lovely with a sweet topping like chocolate spread or clotted cream and jam!
And homemade bread is something else - hot, crusty and smelling divine when straight from the oven!
It can either be made completely by hand.
Or you can use a breadmaking machine to make the dough or a complete loaf.
All you need is a good bread knife, and away you go. Pass the butter!
Bread can be a meal on its own. You canβt beat a crusty roll with some soup or a slice of bread just with butter, spread, jam or marmalade on top.
Itβs so versatile. We can toast it or make any sandwich imaginable, toasted or not!
So do you like bread? If so, what is your favourite?
Do you have any speciality breads in your part of the world?
What about your favourite toppings or sandwich fillers? Are there any special recipes you can share?
Today, letβs celebrate the humble loaf in any way you wish!
