❄️❄️It’s Christmas Card Day ❄️❄️
We all send and like to receive Christmas Cards. It is part of the tradition of Christmas, and sometimes the only time we hear from some of our relatives!
The sending of Christmas Cards goes back a long way to 1843 when the first commercial card was created by Sir Henry Cole, who had the idea of sending greetings in what we now know as Christmas Cards and the rest as they say is history.
Today is Christmas Card day in honour of its inventor.
The first card showed a family raising a toast, the following year showed pics of flowers showing the promise of spring.
Today, there are so many lovely designs to choose from and will never be worth anything apart from the person who receives them.
One of the first cards was sold at auction in 2001 for £22,250.
You can see a collection of old cards at the British Museum.
They are sold today all over the world, although quite a few people do make their own and the common greeting is Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You can even get them with a family photo on them.
So, to help celebrate today, why not have a go at making some cards. And if you have kids or grandkids, get them involved, they will love it. The card will be very much appreciated as well by the receiver. It just adds a personal touch.
If you aren't into making them, make sure yours are written by today and even posted to get there in good time for Christmas.
So, do you send Christmas cards, and are you one of those that send them to everybody you know?
Sadly, ecards seem to be taking over a bit nowadays, and although are nice, they will never replace the card stuck on the wall or pictures, or wherever you hang yours.
Ecards are helpful for people abroad, as the cost of postage today is usually more than the card costs, so it is sensible to use Ecards in these circumstances.
Three are some lovely ecards around though I have to say, and some you can send for free, while other sites you have to join for a small fee.
Ok, let's have some Christmas card fun and post anything Christmas Card related, along with our usual friendly chitchat and fun!
