πππItβs National Apple Monthπππ
An apple a day keeps the Doctor away, so the old saying goes, not sure how true it is.
This month is National Apple Month, a time to appreciate apples, one of people's favourite fruits, and how good they are for you. There are over 7,500 varieties of apples in the world, but doubt you will see most of them.
As summer turns to Autumn/Fall apples become increasingly popular, and are readily available, to eat, or to make some delicious cakes or puddings with.
Apples are packed with vitamins and nutrients and are said to help the risk of heart problems, diabetes and certain cancers. So a fruit bowl with some nice shiny apples in not only looks good but does you good as well.
To celebrate the month, if you have an apple orchard near to you, go and pick some. There is nothing like fresh off the tree.
Have some friends around and make and enjoy all sorts of apple dishes, from sweet to savoury, and even serve apple cider.
Make some cider and some apple cider vinegar for later use, and also freeze excess apples for use in apple sauce or even pies.
However you celebrate this month, make it full of apples and try some new varieties if you can find them. Let us know if you like apples, and if you cook with them, what you bake. There are loads of things to use them for. Apple pie is a favourite, apple sauce to go with gammon or pork, cakes, puddingsβthe ideas are down to you.
Post all things apple-related, be it songs, gifs, music, or any recipes you have for cooking with apples.
