⌚️Jewellery 💍

Most of us wear some form of jewellery, even if it’s just a watch, although a lot of watches these days do far more than looking stylish and telling the time!!

The custom of wearing jewellery began way back in prehistoric times, with 100,000-year-old beads made from shells thought to be the oldest known items.
Jewellery can be functional, as in brooches, buckles, hair grips etc, symbolic of status as in a wedding ring, a religious symbol, a good luck charm, a sentimental piece that was a gift or inherited from a loved one, or simply a piece of art to express your personality.

We most often think of jewellery as being made from precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum, and gemstones, but all manner of materials can be used: coins, wood, enamel, glass, clay beads, bone, ivory, natural fibres such as cotton or hemp, and shells, of course!!

Precious and semi-precious stones used include diamonds, amethysts, sapphires, emeralds, jade, rubies, quartz, turquoise and probably some of the first ones used, amber and pearls.

So, do you wear jewellery? Just a watch or something more?
What are your favourite pieces and materials?
Have you ever made your own?
