Ok, what nut isn't a nut? They are legumes, more moreish. It is the most popular sandwich filler in the USA and is very popular over here. They also have a very common allergy. Yes, you’re right, it's peanuts!
This month is peanut month.
Peanuts have a lot going for them and are part of culture and cuisine all over the world.
The peanut contains over 30 nutrients and vitamins essential to good health and has the richest source of antioxidants. How can you go wrong?
It comes in different varieties: salted, roasted, shelled, unsalted, and you can now get flavoured ones. Peanuts appear in a lot of things, like chocolate, ice cream, and of course, peanut butter!
These legumes were first found and cultivated in Peru 8,000 years ago. They were used in art and offered for sale when the conquistadors arrived in Tenochtitlan. Then, traders from Europe spread them all over the world, and they are now cultivated in almost every area where the climate permits.
They are used in cooking everywhere, in snacks, appetizers, main courses and desserts. In South America, they drop a handful of peanuts into a bottle of coke to flavour it. Could be interesting !!
This month is the right time to enjoy this lovely treat, either in the form of peanut butter or find some new peanut recipes. They are great to cook with, but in this house, they have to be hidden
So today, post anything peanut-related and any recipes you use them in, and let's enjoy these moorish little legumes!
