🌹 Rose Day 🌹
Roses, a symbol of love and friendship, are one of the best-loved flowers in the world.
They exist in many forms, but basically, you have the four or five-petalled wild roses and the ornamental roses grown in so many gardens or cut for use in the home.
Not only are they beautiful and fragrant flowers, but rose hips are edible and a great source of vitamin C.
They can be eaten raw, as many birds do too, or made into jellies or jams!!
Today’s garden roses originated in China and were first traded in the 18th Century.
They come in many colours, and each has its own meaning
Red roses, of course, represent love, and many will be given on Valentine’s Day next week.
Yellow roses represent joy and friendship, so they are an ideal gift for a good friend or to cheer someone up.
Lavender roses express enchantment, so are ideal as a gift at the start of a relationship.
Pink roses are the perfect way to show gratitude, appreciation and admiration for someone who has helped and supported you.
White roses symbolise purity, innocence and eternity, so are ideal for a range of gifts right from a celebration of marriage, to a gift for someone starting a new job or relationship, or as funeral flowers.
Orange roses are perfect for expressing excitement!
Green roses represent birth, growth, and renewal, so are ideal as a gift for new parents-to-be, or someone experiencing a change of direction in their life.
How to celebrate Rose Day
This is very simple - just share the love of roses by gifting one or several to someone dear to you or who has supported you at some time.
A little gift of a rose means a great deal!!
And, of course, there are many songs about roses, so let’s celebrate today in The Dog House by sharing images and songs about this beautiful flower, as well as our usual friendly fun and chat.
