πŸ„ Down On The Farm 🐏

Farmers of all kinds are the people we rely on to produce our food and other useful crops.
I was lucky enough to be raised by parents who were big into self-sufficiency, so on our smallholding we grew our own fruit and vegetables, with the surplus frozen, stored or preserved, and had all sorts of animals including chickens, ducks, geese, cows, sheep, pigs, and goats, providing us with milk, meat, and eggs.

Humans were first hunter-gatherers, but once they settled down and domesticated animals and started to grow crops, farming as we know it came to be.
It used to be a very labour-intensive industry, but now with modern machinery, just a few people can run a large farm, with contractors brought in to help with certain tasks.

But nothing beats the taste of fresh produce straight from the farm!!
Some farmers now sell directly from the gate and some even have larger farm shops, selling eggs, vegetables, fruit etc.
There are also farmers’ markets where they can sell their produce directly to their customers.

And of course, in season, there is nothing nicer than visiting a pick-your-own farm and filling your own punnets with strawberries, raspberries etc, still warm from the sun. One for the punnet and one for me!!! 😁

So today, let’s celebrate all things farming of all types, big or small, animal or vegetable, whether in gifs, memes, pictures, videos or music!! As well as our normal harvest of fun and friendly chat.

I live in the UK, and enjoy walking, gardening, computers and technology, art and music. I care deeply about all animals - especially dogs, horses and cats - and the natural world.
