☀️ Sunshine All The Way ☀️

Today is National Sunscreen Day, a timely reminder that we have to be careful of the sun even when we enjoy being out in it.
And most people do love to see the sunshine, even if, like me, they don’t enjoy too much heat.

As well as giving you a general mental feel-good factor, sunlight on your skin helps your body produce vitamin D.
Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. These nutrients are needed to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone deformities such as rickets in children, and bone pain caused by a condition called osteomalacia in adults.

Sunshine also allows plants to carry out photosynthesis, whereby they produce oxygen and energy in the form of sugars, using water and carbon dioxide, a process that is essential to all life on this planet in one way or another.

Sunflowers are the ultimate happy, sunshine loving flower! When young, their heads swivel during the day to track the sun’s movement across the sky, what is known as heliotropism. Once mature, they remain static, always facing East. This is because flowers facing that direction attract five times as many pollinators as the insects like those to warm themselves up on first thing in the morning.

So, are you a sun-worshipper?
Do you enjoy sunbathing or prefer the cooler shade of a parasol or tree to enjoy a nice summer’s day?

Today, let’s share some funny sunny stuff and all manner of enjoyment of sunshine by humans, animals and plants!!
