♻️Global Recycling Day♻️
If you have ever looked at landfills what do you see, endless amounts of rubbish polluting the earth. A lot of our rubbish goes into landfill even though it is supposed to be recycled. It is so wrong.
Well, today is Global Recycling Day, so let's tell ourselves to recycle our waste properly and to ensure that it does not go into landfill. This will certainly help towards stopping the destruction of our planet.
Global recycling day was announced in 2015. The president of the Bureau of International Recycling made a point of bringing it to the attention of the World Recycling Convention that year. The first celebration of the day was in 2018 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Bureau. It is meant to not only remind individuals to reduce waste, but to encourage people to speak up against governments and corporations who don't do their part.
Some countries have excellent recycling plants, and everything is done properly. Sadly over here in the UK, it isn't, and a lot of so-called recycling ends up in the landfill.
Some of the supermarkets have recycling bins in their car park, and some of our smaller shops will recycle certain stuff for you.
Most stuff can be recycled even by yourselves, wash out plastic freezer bags and reuse them, reuse carrier bags and anything plastic you can.
Plastic is one of the worst things to go into Landfill and does so much damage to the environment and the wildlife. There have been instances of baby birds being born and eating plastic, and adult ones whose stomach is full of plastic.
Some of it is easy to do, just say no thanks to any plastic bags offered to you. If enough people do that the shops will stop buying them as people don't want them. Buy paper straws for the kids to use, and a lot of places over here are trying to do away with plastic cutlery and plastic cups for tea and coffee.
