πŸ₯¦πŸ“πŸ«‘πŸ„ Let’s Eat More Fruit And Veg Day πŸ₯¦πŸ“πŸ«‘πŸ„

Today is Eat More Fruit and Veg Day.
I doubt any of us eat enough of it, to be honest.

The day was created by the Dole Food Company and it was started to raise awareness of how eating plenty of fruit and veg can combat obesity and things like diabetes, heart attacks and even some forms of cancer.

Fruit and veg are not only good for you but are very nice if cooked properly and not boiled or microwaved to death.
You can buy fruit and veg in all forms, fresh from the supermarkets, tinned or even frozen. You can’t beat fresh veg, and the thought of soggy frozen veg would put me off my food.
Nothing beats homegrown fresh veg, but not everybody can be bothered to get a few tubs, put some spuds in them, and then harvest the lovely new spuds. Nor plant other veg, but they don’t know what they are missing.

To celebrate today, try something different.

  • Ditch the traditional pasta for veggie noodles for a night. Zoodles (zucchini noodles), anyone? They’re surprisingly satisfying and a fantastic way to sneak more veggies into your dinner. Plus, twirling them around your fork is just as fun.

  • For a no-fuss dinner, throw a variety of chopped veggies onto a sheet pan, season as you wish, and roast them to perfection. It’s like conducting an orchestra of flavours where every vegetable gets a chance to shine.

  • Or have a salad, lots of different fruit and veg there, and make it interesting with an interesting dressing, not just the usual mayo or salad cream. There are loads of recipes available, and are much nicer and healthier than mayo and salad cream.

  • For those midday munchies, prepare a portable trail mix with dried fruits, nuts, and seeds. It’s a sweet, crunchy snack that packs a nutritional punch and keeps you energized throughout the day.

Embracing more fruits and veggies doesn’t just mean eating healthier. It’s about exploring new flavours, textures, and culinary adventures.

Try a different veg with your dinner, something you have never cooked before, but above all, be adventurous as cooking and eating veg can be fun. So many ways of cooking veg as well, apart from boiling or microwaving.

Looks great with a nice salad dressing

So, today, post all things fruit and veg related, tell us what you like and don't like and how you cook them, and any interesting recipes will be gratefully received!
