🍳National Cooking Day🍳
We spend our lives rushing from here to there, grabbing a bite to eat when we can from where we can.
This is so wrong for our health apart from a lot of other things.
We all eat food, but how many actually plan a meal, make sure they have all the ingredients, and enjoy cooking it?
It seems today that people are too lazy to cook even a simple meal, and that is a sad state of affairs. It doesn't take long to cook a nice basic meal, and does you a lot more good than takeaways, junk food, or just grabbing the first tin in the cupboard and opening it without giving it any thought at all.
Our Parents and Grandparents cooked on a regular basis and we got three meals a day every day.
Back in the 1960/70's fast food was a rare treat and tv dinners were unheard of.
National Cooking Day was intended to make people more aware of how to cook and the benefits of a good nutritious home cooked meal, which can often be cheaper than the ready meals sold in the shops or having a take away
So, today, why not decide to cook a nice meal for the evening, doesn't have to be anything expensive, but a good solid hot meal. A slow cooker is a great way to cook food and benefits from the cheaper cuts of meat as well.
Take a look in your kitchen, see what ingredients you have and what you can make out of them, you may be surprised. There are plenty of recipes online for all sorts of food.
If you are a regular cook, why not invite some friends over for an evening meal and maybe get them to supply the afters? A good way to get other people to cook as well.
Whatever you decide to cook today, tell us about it and how it turned out. If it wasn't perfect, never mind. With a bit of practice, we can all learn to cook.
So, let’s have some cooking fun today, recipes welcome, and post anything cooking-related together with our usual fun and chit chat
