Sports And The Olympics

As everyone probably knows, whether you are a sports fan or not, the Olympics are currently on in Paris France.
Soccer is the most-watched sport around the world when talking of normal sports schedules, but the Olympics bring many of the more obscure sports to people’s attention every four years.
Athletics, swimming, and gymnastics are probably the most-watched Olympic sports, but there is something for everyone. And, of course, there are the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies.

Some events, like the men’s 100-metre final, are the highlights of the games.
And I have always been in awe of the athletes who multi-task in such events as the triathlon, pentathlon and decathlon!

But there are many popular sports that aren’t in the Olympics.

Motorsports and horse racing have huge followings. American football is big news in the US. Cricket is an international sport and is very popular in India, Pakistan, Australia, England, and the West Indies.

Participating in sports is a great way to socialise and in many cases, improve fitness.
There are the physical sports mentioned above, as well as the more skill-based sports such as bowls, archery, snooker, pool, etc.

I took part in all manner of sports in school: football (soccer), badminton, swimming, athletics, and volleyball, and I have been a horse rider all of my life until recently.
I love a good game of pool with friends and I have always fancied having a bash at archery.
