Betty Boop The Legend

Today is Betty Boop Day and there aren’t many people who don't like Betty Boop—she is funny, sexy, wears lovely clothes and has a great little dog. 

She is, however, clocking on now, even though, lucky person, she doesn't seem to be ageing at all. She is almost 100 years old, first seen on August 9th 1930, as part of the Dizzy Dishes cartoon. 

When she first appeared, she was supposed to be a dog, her big eyes were those of a  Cocker Spaniel, and her now large earrings were the floppy ears. She was the girlfriend of Bimbo, who was also a dog. However, she quickly became a woman who was in the style of the flapper girls, short hair, short skirts and generally against anything traditional. She became the icon of the modern woman of her time.

Some facts about her:

• In addition to appearing in over 100 cartoons, Betty Boop also appeared on a radio show, in two comic strips and on two network musical specials.

• Betty Boop’s show Riding the Rails was nominated for an Oscar.

• Various iterations of Boop’s fame have included perfume, a Bob Mackie designer clothing line, dolls, toys and more.

She is still as popular today. Watching her films from the 30s is very entertaining, and there are thousands of gifs, pics etc. on the internet, and she has her own website as well.
