🐛Unwanted guests🐌

Well, we all get unwanted visitors, and I am not talking about the 2-legged kind. I am talking about some of the insects, bugs etc. that invade our home, and pests that invade our garden. But we need to remember they all play a part in nature and are there for a reason, so we should not be in too much of a hurry to kill things.

Not my favourite at all and would much rather they kept their distance, like about a mile away, but I won’t kill them, as they do a lot of good, and tend to eat bugs etc. you can't even see. So if you really can’t stand them in the same room, get a glass and put it over them and then slide something thin over the top and take it outside, but it will be back !! You should never use any sprays to deter insects as these kill a lot of good ones as well.

Apparently, spiders are always living in the house, but you tend to see them from September to October when the male is looking for a mate. They are generally harmless, although we do have a couple in the UK that can give a nasty bite apparently, and please remember they are more scared of you than you are of them.

Bed bugs, fleas, and flies are all common in people's homes. And mice and rats are as well.

Again, in the case of bed bugs, hoover your mattress.
Fleas, obviously, are brought in by your pets, so make sure you de-flea the pet monthly.
And mice and rats are looking for food, especially if you keep bird food inside. Rats are evil and carry a lot of diseases and I am afraid to say need to be got rid of.

Some garden visitors are cute even if a pest, like squirrels, moles and rabbits. Others like mice and rats need to be deterred, but if you feed the birds you will have mice and rats, especially if you live in the country and in winter. Foxes are often called pests, but I would personally welcome one or two. Again slugs and snails although a pest, do some good and things like greenflies etc. are part of the food chain.

Toads, Hedgehogs and Ladybirds need to be encouraged as do Bees and Butterflies. They all do good in your garden.

Let us know what unwanted visitors you have in your garden and how you deal with them.
Just remember most garden visitors are in decline, so be careful how you treat things like bees etc. Insects are there for a reason and that reason is not to be killed.

So let’s post all things to do with insects, along with our usual friendly chit chat and fun
