What’s Cooking?
Cooking: we all eat it, and some of us do it too!
I am the main cook in our house. Mostly because I enjoy it, and my wife doesn’t, although she will cook if she has to. 😁
I learned a fair bit as a kid when my siblings and I were helping our mother with cooking or baking. I am sure we weren’t actually much “help” to her, but we enjoyed it and usually got a sneak preview of whatever was being prepared!
And as that says, we didn’t get offered a menu as so many kids are today. We had the same as our parents and either ate it or didn’t. Mostly, we did!
As a rule, we had very few snacks and three meals daily: breakfast, lunch and tea.
My father liked his main meal at lunchtime, so breakfast was normally cereals of some kind, lunch was meat/fish and two or three veg, and tea was sandwiches and cake. We were all very active, so calories were not an issue!
My parents were into self-sufficiency, so most food was homegrown, and the surplus was frozen or stored for later use.
I am not a cordon bleu chef by any means, but I can turn my hand to fancy stuff if needed.
I am a dab hand at cakes and my lemon meringue pie is to die for, and not forgetting my apple pie!
