It’s National Black Cat Appreciation Day

Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day, which quite honestly I think they deserve. There is something about black cats that gives them such characters, but they get overlooked in shelters cos of people's stupid superstitions. They believe they are unlucky or mischievous and yes mischievous in a nice way, unlucky not in any way.

In Celtic mythology, they believe that fairies could take the form of a black cat and their arrival at a home or village was good luck. But the Pilgrims that came later were devoutly religious and didn't agree with any of the pagan beliefs of their ancestors and it was because of that fear that black cats went from being seen as good to being seen as evil and people that kept black cats were punished and often the cats were killed. I don't think in this day and age that people believe that they are witches or demons in disguise but often, especially in the West, they are seen as bad luck.

How can this be evil!!

To celebrate this day, if you are lucky enough to own a black cat give it an extra fuss or treat, we often are too busy to spend the time we should without pets, but at the end of the day they are part of the family and deserve our time.

If you’re thinking of getting a cat, go to your nearest shelter, they will be full of black cats and kittens. From my own experience, I have always had at least one black cat, they are the most characteristic of any cat, with the exception of Siamese, so if you get one with Siamese in it you have hit the jackpot. A doctored tom is fantastic and so so loving and people originated. I love all cats but there is something special about a black cat.

So let's have some black cat fun today, posting things black cat related along with our usual friendly chit chat and fun.
