Solstice Time
Day and night, the two ever-changing periods of our 24-hour long days, reach one end of their extremes today or tomorrow - depending on where you live.
Tonight, on the 20th of June 2024, our parts of the Northern Hemisphere celebrate the summer solstice, and a few hours later, in the early hours of the 21st of June, our friends down under get to celebrate their winter solstice.
Thanks to our wonderfully tilted world, every day is a little bit different!
I have experienced both the polar day, with its midnight sun, and the polar night, with its wonderfully dark skies and aurora.
I know many struggle with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in the winter months, but I, for one, love to have seasons. I wouldn’t like to live anywhere where the climate was pretty much the same day in and day out.
Do you have a favourite season?
I am not a hot-weather person at all, so late autumn, winter and spring are mine.
Do you get SAD?
I have no trouble with 24 hours of darkness/twilight, but my mother suffered from that when we lived in Scotland, so we had to move further south.
But there’s no being sad while in The Dog House, so whether you are marking your longest or shortest day, I hope you have a great one!
Whatever your season, let’s have some fun sharing all things solstice, summer, and winter, with music, images, gifs and videos.
